Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena keep the lead in the Drivers' World Championship with the points awarded for sixth place and the best time in the Power Stage. Citroën also holds onto its first position in the Manufacturers' World Championship.

Much shorter and compact than the first two days, day three of Rally Sweden was disputed on stages not far from the service park: Lesjöfors, Rämmen and Hagfors, a stage previously used in 2010 and also the venue for the Power Stage at the end of the rally. A fine layer of fresh snow had fallen overnight and covered the roads as the drivers set off through the fir tree forests.
 
Lying second, 23s behind Jari-Matti Latvala, Mikko Hirvonen had few illusions early this morning about his chances of making up the ground under normal rallying conditions. During the first loop of the three stages, he lost about ten seconds to his rival: "I wasn't comfortable on the first stage, we made some changes to the set-up but I found the car difficult to drive on the narrow sections."
 
Sébastien Loeb, who wasn't particularly looking forward to the Power Stage, pursued his somewhat lonely race in sixth: "I have rarely driven on stages as unpleasant as those here. Obviously, it's very slippery but there are also large rocks everywhere, so it's difficult to push hard without taking huge risks."
 
More comfortable on his second runs, Mikko Hirvonen closed the gap to Latvala to 8.4s after his rival picked up a puncture on Lesjöfors 2 (SS22): "It was a very complicated stage, with a lot of gravel. I am pleased that I felt good in the car again. Jari-Matti's puncture puts him under a little bit of pressure, but I'll keep to my race plan. First and foremost, we have to finish the rally."
 
After Latvala gave himself some breathing space on the penultimate stage, attention turned towards the Power Stage. Having looked after his Michelin X-Ice North tyres during the two long stages, Sébastien Loeb decided to push to try and get the fastest time and the three bonus points that go with it. He achieved his final goal, covering the stage over a second quicker per kilometre than second-placed Petter Solberg! "I can't be happy with the result, but we managed to do the main thing, which was to achieve the best possible point scoring in the circumstances," acknowledged the eight-time World Champion. "We still lead the World Championship going into a long series of gravel rallies. Unlike Sweden, I have always done well in Mexico and I can't wait to bounce back there."
 
Runner-up Mikko Hirvonen moves up into second position in the Drivers' World Championship standings: "I can't be totally satisfied as I didn't win but the result is nonetheless a positive one. We worked well with the team and my feeling in the car has improved further. Although we are going to totally change surface for the next few rallies, all of this will be useful to me in the next event."
 
"Loeb and Hirvonen top the Drivers Championship and Citroën is also top of the Manufacturers' standings: these are the key points we'll take away from Rally Sweden," concluded Yves Matton, Citroën Racing Team Principal. "We think the DS3 WRC more than matched its competitors in terms of out-and-out performance, but the rally just didn't quite go our way! I am also pleased that our five cars made it to the end of the rally without any mechanical problems at all. That's a great performance, which is down to the work put in by every member of the Citroën Racing team."

Mehika – trenutek resnice za Loeba in tekmece
Leon - WRC se je iz -20 stopinj Celzija na Švedskem preselil na 30 stopinj Celzija v osrednji Mehiki. Prvi v seriji makadamskih relijev bo razkril dejansko razmerje moči v sezoni 2012.

 Reli Mehika je tretji v sezoni 2012 svetovnega prvenstva. Najboljši relisti v zvezni državi Guanajuato gostujejo osmič. Visoka nadmorska višina, makadamske hitrostne preizkušnje, kjer ne manjka velikih skal in nedeljski kar 55 kilometrov dolg brzinec pomenijo, da je to eden najzahtevnejših relijev v prvenstvu. Na Sierra de Lobos in Sierra de Guanajuato se bo trasa dirke dvigala tudi 2.700 metrov nad morjem, kar pomeni, da zaradi redkega zraka moč motorja pade za kakšnih 20 odstotkov. A to je obenem eden tistih relijev, ki jih imajo dirkači najraje: dirka je množično obiskana, še posebej to velja za četrtkov večerni superspecial na ulicah starega mestnega jedra mesteca Guanajuato, ki je del Unescove svetovne dediščine. Letos so organizatorji dodali še petkov ulični brzinec v Guanajuatu. Baza relija je sicer v največjem mestu zvezne države, v Leonu. Tudi tam so pripravili krajši ulični brzinec, ki ga bodo odpeljali kar petkrat. Reli se s kvalifikacijsko hitrostno preizkušnjo, po kateri bodo najboljši izbrali svoje štartne položaje, začne v četrtek opoldne po lokalnem času.

 Zaradi manjše moči motorja, dirkač pride še bolj do izraza. Obenem je to prvi od šestih zaporednih makadamskih relijev, ki prevladujejo na letošnjem koledarju. Reli Mehika bo tako razkril dejanska razmerja moči v sezoni 2012. "Večina WRC-ja je danes na makadamu, zato bo zanimivo videti vrstni red v Mehiki. Sam si želel predvsem čim več najhitrejših časov posameznih hitrostnih preizkušenj. Zavedam se, da je konkurenca zelo močna, zato potrebujemo dober rezultat za Citroen," pred štartom napoveduje Finec Mikko Hirvonen (Citroen), ki je na reliju Švedska prejšnji mesec s svojim novim dirkalnikom prvič stopil na stopničke. Po dveh relijih je sedem točk za svetovnim prvakom in vodilnim v seštevku, Francozom Sebastienom Loebom (Citroen). Slednji je v Guanajuatu slavil na prejšnjih petih preizkušnjah in je glavni favorit tudi ta vikend. "Navdušen sem, da bom v Mehiki dirkal s Citroenom, saj so imeli doslej tu izjemne rezultate," dodaja Hirvonen, za katerim so uspešna testiranja na makadamu, lani pa je bil v Mehiki s Fordom drugi.

Loebu in Hirvonenu bosta glavna, najbrž tudi edina tekmeca za zmago Finec Jari-Matti Latvala in Norvežan Petter Solberg s Fordovo tovarniško ekipo. Ta je dobila zadnja dva makadamska relija minule sezone. Latvala je bil v Guanajuatu trikrat tretji, Solberg je leta 2005 zmagal, odtlej pa ima še dve drugi mesti. "V reliju je zelo pomembno, da dirkaš po čisti liniji, v Mehiki, kjer je zaradi nadmorske višine manjša moč motorja, še toliko bolj. Èe narediš napako in zdrsneš z idealne linije, boš ob novem pospeševanju izgubil veliko časa. Obenem je v zavojih težje najti pravo prestavo," recept za (ne)uspeh v Mehiki razlaga Jari-Matti LatvalaPetter Solberg je na testiranjih v Španiji prebolen gripo, a pravi, da ga to ne bo ustavilo: "V Mehiki je treba napadati še bolj agresivno. Tam imam dobre rezultate in še en tak bi pomenil uspešen začetek sezone."

 Minijeva ekipa Prodrive pripravlja okoli 100 sprememb na svojem dirkalnem avtomobilu, a izpušča reli v Mehiki. Španec Dani Sordo in Šved Patrik Sandell se na svetovno prvenstvo vrača na reliju Portugalska zadnji marčevski konec tedna. V Mehiki bosta konkurenco dopolnila Američan Ken Block in povratnik v svetovno prvenstvo, Avstralec Chris Atkinson, ki bosta nastopila z zasebno Fordovo ekipo Monster. Volkwagen Motosport pa v Guanajuato prihaja z Nizozemcem Kevinom Abbringom in svojim prvim dirkačem Francozom Sebastienom Ogierjem. V konkurenci z dirkalniki S2000 so dobili prvi dve dirki sezone in to je njihov cilj tudi na tretji preizkušnji. Ogier bo s Škodo Fabio S2000 prvič dirkal na makadamu. Lani je s Citroenom v Mehiki odstopil, potem ko je vodil, predlani pa je bil četrti. Letos potihem upa na prvo deseterico, predvsem pa želi zbrati čim več informacij za svojega Pola R WRC za napad na zmago v sezoni 2013.

Loeb 75 km pred ciljem s 36 sekundami prednosti

Leon - Pred nedeljskimi štirimi hitrostnimi preizkušnjami (ena bo dolga kar 55 kilometrov) ima Sebastien Loeb (Citroen) na reliju Mehika 36 sekund prednosti pred Mikkom Hirvonenom (Citroen).

Pred najboljši relisti na svetu je bilo na sobotni drugi etapi tretjega letošnjega relija kar 184 kilometrov. Sebastien Loeb (Citroen) je imel na začetku dneva 11 sekund prednosti pred Mikkom Hirvonenom (Citroen), po 10 hitrostnih preizkušnjah pa je prednost povišal na varnih 36 sekund. V nedeljo popoldne po srednjeevropskem času so pred dirkači sicer samo še štiri hitrostne preizkušnje, a ena od teh je dolga kar 55 kilometrov, tako da nikar Loeba prehitro ne okronajmo za zmagovalca relija Mehika šestič zapored.

Jari-Matti Latvala in Petter Solberg (oba Ford) sta po petkovih težavah v soboto pritiskala do konca in se povzpela na tretje oziroma četrto mesto, a Citroenovega dvojca nista mogla ogroziti. Njun zaostanek je znašal minuto in 53 sekund oziroma dve minuti in 11 sekund. Latvala je v soboto sicer sprva dobil več zaporednih brzincev, nato pa na 15. zadel večjo skalo in moral s predrto pnevmatiko odpeljati 25 kilometrov. Mads Östberg je bil osamljen na petem mestu.

"Sem v dobrem, varnem položaju, a do cilja je še daleč. Zaradi 55-kilomtrske hitrostne preizkušnje ni še nič končanega," je po drugem dnevu dejal osemkratni prvak Sebastien Loeb. "Na tem reliju sem imel zadnja leta veliko uspeha in upam, da se to nadaljuje tudi to nedeljo." Medtem se njegov tekmecaiz Forda, Jari-Matti Latvala, na tretjem mestu hrabri: "Dobro je, da je vsaj dirkalnik konkurenčen. Z njim nimam težav in lahko bi bili povsem na vrhu."

Povratnik v svetovno prvenstvo Chris Atkinson je uvrstitev med 10 zapravil na sila nenavaden način. Na 16. brzincu je s proge zletel v jarek. Pravzaprav nekaj metrov zatem, ko je zapeljal prek ciljne črte. Avstralec se bo zadnji dan vrnil na dirko. Tako se je v prvo deseterico prebil Sebastien Ogier (Škoda), ki je dan končal z 12 minutami zaostanka za Loebom, a se mu obeta druga zaporedna zmaga v razredu S2000.
