Citroen je leta 1989 na tržišče postavil naslednika modela CX. Ta naj bi zajemal vse prvine predhodnikov v sodobni obliki in dizajnu. V tistih časih je predstavljal sam vrh sodobne elektronike in tehnološke iznajdlivosti integrirane v vozilo, ki naj bi sodilo v višji rang vozil.

Izdelali so široko paleto motorjev (skupaj 11) od bencinskih pa do dizelskih od 2l pa do 3 literskih bencinarjev ter dve različici dizla 2.1l in 2.5l. Skozi leta so nastajale določene inovacije in izboljšave. Tako so imeli od 83 pa do 200 konjskih moči.

Vozila so se prodala od leta 1989 pa vse do leta 2000 ko so iz citroenove tovarne prišli zadnji modeli (predvsem dizel) xm-ov- Tako se je za 6 let zaključila doba luxuznih-hidropnevmatičnih citroenovih vozil vse do leta 2006 ko po dolgem času spet pricurljal sedajšni C6.

Project Y30

Under the project code-name Y30 the successor of the CX was developed starting from the early eighties. By september 1984 the main specifications (like length, height, width, engines, prices etc.) for the successor of the CX were defined. These specifications were derived from its successor, the CX, but also from cars from the competition. One of the main goals of the Y30 was to offer more interior space and quality than the CX, within the same exterior size.

Three different design studios were asked to make a proposal for the design of the new car. These design studios were the two PSA design centers Carrières-sous-Poissy and Všlizy and Bertone in Italy.

The design of Carrières-sous-Poissy was discarded, in november 1984 when the design crews of Všlizy and Bertone were asked to build a 1:1 scale model of their designs within the next 6 months. Those scale models were presented to the president of Citroen, Jacques Calvet, and the general director of PSA, Xavier Karcher in march 1985.

Although the design presented by Všlizy had all the features of a good looking Citroen top-model, it was considered to be too close to that of the CX.

Finally the Bertone design was chosen for the Y30 project. This design was originated by a pencil drawing made by the Bertone stylist Marc Deschamps on his lap in the plane between Paris and Turino in october 1984.

Bertone's two-box (engine-compartment, passenger-compartment, no real visable trunk compartment) design fitted well in the SM, CX and BX tradition.

The interior of the Y30 project car was also designed by Bertone (see the left picture below). The picture other picture shows another much more futuristic design for the dashboard by Harnaud.

The final design and the technical realisition of the Y30 project according to the Bertone design ideas was done by the stylists at Citroen (PSA) in Všlizy.

XM Series 3 ?

According to the french car magazine Auto Journal (issue from May 1997) the final decision on Project Y-5 was finally made after month of PSA internal discussions.

The XM successor will be developed and build but with a restricted financial budget. In fact the whole project was questioned because of the far too low sales numbers of the Citroen XM and the Peugeot 605 (and Renault Safrane for that matter), but it was decided that Citroen can't be without a top range model car.
The new big Peugeot (PSA-Code Z-8) will be introduced in 1999, but the successor of the XM will not be ready before 2001.

Therefore the current XM most probably will be restyled in 1999. The main feature of the restyling will be a new front with a lot of glass like the SM.

takole zakamufliran je prestajal teste.

takole pa so pri auto journali leta 95 napovedovali nov xm oziroma zx (xsara) očitno so imeli kurirja v citroenu, ki je dal dobre napotke risarju, saj so platišča na xsari neverjetno podobna tistim, ki jih je imel potem model vts
